If you’re here, it means you want to hear a little bit more about me. So consider this my unapologetic moment to talk about myself even more than I already have. Womp womp.

I’m Kate, the Founder and Creative Director behind The Noble Paperie. I’m a 30-something Queer mama from San Diego, California and a total paper nerd. I also happen to be the Post Office’s number one fan (yes, seriously). I believe in pancakes on Sunday, baseball in summer, and trying to find the best cheeseburger in all the land. Team Hufflepuff all the way, baby. I’m married to my college sweetheart, and he’s been my rock through all of our ups and downs. I also deeply believe that Amy Poehler and I would be best friends (sorry, Tina) …so somebody please give her my phone number, and tell her to call me… text me.

I graduated with a BFA in graphic design and printmaking from Notre Dame de Namur University, and started designing all sorts of things for friends and family right out of college. In 2011, I accepted a position at a San Diego-based pharmaceutical advertising agency and worked tirelessly to become an award-winning art director.

In 2014 + 2015, we lost two babies to miscarriage. This rocked our world, and these losses were completely and utterly devastating. We kept the secret close to our hearts for a long time, and buried them deep within our marriage. The pregnancy that followed was extremely high-risk. It landed me in the hospital for more than 40 days on bedrest and our daughter was delivered prematurely via emergency C-section at 32 weeks. We also endured a month-and-a-half long NICU stay before we were able to bring our little miracle home. Needless to say, after all of those experiences, my priorities naturally changed. Our journey to baby blessed us with the greatest gift: the birth of our gorgeous rainbow baby; but it also made me acutely aware of the challenges so many face when trying to start a family.

In 2018 we made the difficult decision to try again for one more baby. After so much loss, trauma, and complication, nothing felt like a sure thing. We welcomed our sunshine baby into the world in 2019, and his birth felt like the end of a long and painful journey to having 2 living children.

In 2021, our world was once again turned on its head when we finally understood that our first-born, Sebastian (she/her/hers), is Transgender. This discovery answered so many questions and yet again tested everything we thought we knew about being a parent. We are so immensely proud of her and will always continue to fight for her and the entire LGBTQIA+ and Trans communities that we feel so fortunate to now be a part of. In 2023 we received an Autism diagnosis for Sebastian. Once again we were thrown into a world we knew nothing about, and are honestly still learning how to best advocate for a child with a disability. Needless to say, life is anything but dull, and we are trying to give ourselves all the grace as we navigate the unprecedented challenges of parenting a Queer and neurodivergent child.

These transformational experiences have given me a passion for supporting others during their own journey to baby. Our line of Noble Greetings were initially born from loss—our first 6 cards were designed specifically with the Miscarried Mama in mind, but have since evolved to include over 100 products that support those struggling with loss, infertility, pregnancy-related issues, and NICU stays. In 2022 I further expanded my line to include products to support the LGBTQIA+ community, and have a yearly donation set to support Trans Lifeline.

In 2022 I also officially changed our tagline to Supporting The Bereaved and Everyone In Between, which has felt like a missing piece just clicked. That tagline has managed to encompasses all that The Noble Paperie is. And while there is more support than ever for people suffering pregnancy loss and infertility, often times those conversations are void of other marginalized groups, like BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ families. If there’s one thing I know, it’s that death does not discriminate. All types of people experience pregnancy loss, infertility, and we will all experience death and grief at some point in our lives. And so, I want my line to be supportive of more than one journey. So much has happened in the last several years, and I feel fortunate to use my unique perspective to try and make it a little more bearable for those walking a similar path.

So I see you. If you’re here, it means you’ve been through it. And I know first-hand that this journey ain’t easy. I’ve had the most incredible partner who has supported me during all of these ups and downs, but I will admit: even with his support, I often felt so alone. After all, grief and loss can be so incredibly isolating. My hope is that our products and this platform can spread joy to those finding their way through grief and loss, and let them know that if we stand together, we are never alone. I give you the sincerest thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for not only reading all of this, but also for allowing The Noble Paperie to be a part of your lives. I truly hope our cards can impart some joy to you and your loved ones along the journey.

With hope, advocacy, and acceptance,

KATE WOOLLEY
